Ceramic Glazing/Painting (1 - 4pm Fridays)
Join us every Friday from 1 pm to 4 pm for our open house ceramics event!
Explore your creativity by glazing/painting ceramics/pottery from our diverse collection of mugs, cups, bowls, cookie jars, and more. In-stock designs are available while supplies last.
No membership is required - it's open to the public. Bring a friend or two!
How long does it take to create?
Paint at your own pace! Some take hours, while young kids may finish in 20 minutes. Most adults paint for 1-2 hours. It depends on your piece, design, and detail. At the 510 Art Lab, we have many other art forms involving glass, chemicals, tools, and dangerous equipment nearby, so for safety reasons, minors are to stay with their adult and off the floor for the duration of their visit. If you are not able to finish in one sitting, no problem. Just pay for your piece & take it home or leave it with us for up to 4 weeks.
Do I need a reservation?
We operate on a walk-in basis only - no reservations. Since everyone creates at their own pace, we don’t want to set time limits by doing reservations. If you want a private session for your group of 6 or more, please contact us!
Will my piece be food safe?
We offer non-toxic paints and glazes of the highest quality. Finished pottery pieces are food safe after firing. They are also “technically” microwave and dishwasher safe. However, we don’t recommend putting them in the dishwasher because the severe temperature changes can cause glaze cracking, and then they are no longer food-safe.
When I leave my piece to be fired, how long until I pick up the finished item?
Your piece will be ready for pickup in 10-16 days. After 16 days, you can just stop in anytime we’re open to pick it up. We do try to let you know when it’s done via text or email.
Can’t come back right away? No problem, we will hold onto your piece for 45 days. After that grace period has passed, we do not guarantee that your pieces will be available.
DISCLAIMERS: (1) Please be aware that we do not make reminder calls. (2) We fire 2x a month without exception, so rush requests will be denied.
Will you fire ceramics that I did not get from 510 Art Lab?
We only fire ceramics purchased and glazed at 510 Art Lab with our ceramics glazes. Proper storage, glazes, and firing temperatures are crucial to a successful outcome. External pieces pose risks to our kilns, other ceramics, and your piece, so we cannot accept them.
Can I schedule a Paint Your Own Pottery (PYOP) party at the Art Lab for a birthday or other event?
Yes! Our walk-in business has grown considerably over the past two years. Hosting parties during regular hours got a little crazy. Because we only want to do something if we can do it well, we decided no longer to offer parties during regular hours. Therefore, we currently offer large group gatherings when the studio is closed to the public. For this, you can rent the ceramics space for up to 2 hours. We require a minimum of 6 painters, and you get a dedicated staff member for your group. Every 4-5 minors will need an adult supervisor in your group. Email with questions: 510artlab@gmail.com or call 320-351-5101
Date: Every Friday!
Time: Open house from 1 pm - 4 pm (for kids, allow 20 minutes for them to paint. For Adults, allow yourself 1 hour or so of time to paint your piece. For safety reasons, kids need to stay right with their adult the entire time.)
Ages: All capable ages are welcome! Minors will need to be accompanied and supervised by an adult.
Registration: No registration needed, just come in and choose what design you would like to paint.
Stop in and have some fun!
If you have a large group (5 or more), consider a private session. The ceramics painting space is on a first come first serve basis, and we may not have enough space for a large group during our open house events. Email us at 510artlab@gmail.com if you have questions!
